Diabetes and Depression-Can One Affect The Other?

Diabetics who may be afflicted with depression in fact exhibit or show each and every kind of warning sign of depression that doctors will tell you that unhappy people have. Sometimes it’s actually quite easy to overlook such symptoms and not be able to help yourself or others who are tormented from depression.

As a diabetic, you need to understand that the symptoms of depression can vary. You may posses many side effects of depression but you need not to suffer from these before you get them diagnosed and treated. Also, depression symptoms fluctuate; the instance of their "attacks" changes as well.

A number of universal examples of a diabetic’s symptoms of depression:

Not feeling “up to it,” may have a number of causes like low or high blood sugars. If blood sugar levels are normal for you then the prolonged feeling is a prime example for this symptom of hopelessness or melancholy.
As a diabetic, you may actually feel you have nothing to look forward to except another shot, pick of the finger or low blood sugar. You may feel very negative about life in general and have a very pessimistic outlook about your life. All of these indicators point towards depression.
Your self-worth can be lessened. You may feel like you should not be happy because you do not deserve it which is a clear symptom of depression. Feeling like you do not have control over your diabetes and your life and assuming that good things just will not go your way.
If you mope around and do not feel like taking your insulin or checking your sugar because you do not feel it will do any good then these are actually signs of depression. You are in effect, conveying to yourself that you have completely no hope in your body at all.
As a diabetic, we have an extra hurtle to overcome, our disease. So, if you start to notice a lack of interest in things you love than you might have come in contact with the creepy-crawly depression bacteria.

Depression can be affecting your mental state but more importantly your physical well being. Being a diabetic, and lacking physical energy can have an affect on our blood sugar level control. Depression can cause us to fee fatigued, and no energy and will not get the sleep they need or eat as they should and have the urge to just mope around
Do you have a problem with concentrating? How about remembering when you took your insulin? Both of these are signs of depression. If you do not have any interest to things going on around you or about anything can help you lose track of things and not remembering what happened or what others have said. Inattentiveness can result because of your lack of interest.

How do you know when you need to go for medical help? If you sleep a lot or wake up during the night a lot are all symptoms of depression. If these symptoms occur daily like loss of appetite or in the other direction, eating too much can not only be a sign of depression but can have a devastating affect on your diabetes control. Body pains, headaches, talking about dyeing and being suicidal are clearly an indication that you are depressed and should seek medical help.
